ISO 11439 for High pressure cylinders for the on-board storage of natural gas as a fuel for automotive vehicles demands stress analysis

ISO 11439:2000, regulated by INMETRO, demands finite element stress analysis to assure the rupture and fatigue´s resistance of the on-board storage of natural gas´ cylinder.

The requirement is described on the following items:

5.2.4.2 Stress analysis report
A finite element stress analysis or other stress analysis shall be carried out. A table summarizing the calculated stresses shall be provided.

6.3.3 Stress analysis
The stresses in the cylinder shall be calculated for 200 bar, test pressure and design burst pressure. The calculations shall use suitable analysis to establish stress distributions to justify the minimum design wall thicknesses.
